Double Agent — Brock Chart
Double Agent is a jazz waltz perfect for students who love espionage, adventure, and the musical worlds of James Bond and Mission Impossible. Written for early intermediate students, this piece captures many of the same characteristics that make spy themes so iconic: cool and catchy basslines, syncopation, touches of chromaticism, and a dramatic ending to tie it all together.
Because this piece requires solid hand independence, I often use “cell-phone duets” in my studio. To make one, place a phone on the music stand and record a video of one hand playing a section of the piece. Then play the video back and perform the other hand along with it. It’s a great way for students to practice each hand separately while still hearing how the two parts interact—almost like practicing with a teacher during the lesson.
