Our story
My-Melodies is an independent publishing company based in Lawrence, Kansas, specializing in educational piano literature founded and owned by composer, Brock Chart.
We consider ourselves piano teachers first and foremost. Working with students of all ages and skill levels every day allows us to see—and hear—what students actually want to play, and what truly works in real lessons. We noticed a gap: students wanted music that sounded modern and exciting—music they’d be proud to play for family and friends—while still being approachable for younger and developing pianists. That combination is surprisingly hard to find.
So in 2020, we began writing our own music, starting with Five-Finger Jazz! Books 1 and 2, creating pieces custom-tailored around our students’ needs, interests, and abilities. Since then, My-Melodies has grown to include eight published books and an expanding catalog, welcoming composer Kai Ono to our team along the way.
In January 2025, we launched Melodies Monthly—a teacher-driven subscription where educators vote each month on style, level, and instrumentation and receive brand-new pieces written specifically for their students. Beginning in January 2026, the project expanded to include guest composers, bringing new voices into the catalog while staying rooted in the same student-first philosophy.
Our music has been featured in national publications such as AMT Magazine and Piano Inspires Magazine, and selected for major curricula including the 2024–2028 NFMC Bulletin and Conservatory Canada’s Piano Repertoire Series.
But the measure that matters most to us is simple: students are connecting with the music—and getting excited about playing piano.
