Neon Dreams is a fun, upbeat pop-style piece written for 4-Part Group Piano at a late elementary level. This one came from our teachers’ requests for something modern, pattern-based, and easy to teach by rote — and I’m really happy with how it turned out. The whole piece has that bright, catchy “neon pop” vibe teenagers love.

Each part was designed to feel rewarding without a ton of movement on the keyboard. The patterns are intentionally predictable, making it great for building confidence and helping students feel successful quickly. Piano 1 has the simplest part and stays mostly in one position, while Pianos 2–4 build slightly in activity but are still very pattern-driven and rely on shapes students can memorize fast. Because so much of it can be taught by rote, students get to focus on the groove and the sound rather than note-by-note reading.

A fun bonus in this piece is the optional student-played drum part — one performer can switch their keyboard to a drum kit and hold down the beat, giving everyone a chance to explore new sounds and making it feel like a real band. There are also practice and performance play-alongs included, so your students can jam along and really make the ensemble come alive. Have fun lighting up the studio with this one!
