Nashville Nights — Brock Chart
Nashville Nights is a country-rock inspired solo for intermediate students, and it’s one of those pieces that feels both laid-back and surprisingly sophisticated. I actually wrote the first version of this as a sketch for $POSITIONS, the dark comedy I scored last year — the director wanted the film to feel like the Midwest, and country music is such an essential part of that sound world. This piece came out of that early sketching process, and I loved the vibe enough to turn it into a full solo for Melodies Monthly.
The whole piece is built around strong, memorable patterns that make it easy to learn while still sounding impressive. It stays in an easy key with light movement, and the country-rock groove gives it that catchy, “windows-down at sunset” feeling that teens really respond to. Because the patterns repeat and evolve, students get a lot of mileage for their practice time — the difficulty sits in the expressive shaping rather than technical overwhelm.
It’s a great choice for recitals, especially for students who want something modern, cinematic, and a little different from their usual repertoire. Have fun bringing a bit of Nashville warmth into your studio!
